The chairman of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and member of the Commission for “Public Affairs and Corporate Communications” of the IOC, Vesela Lecheva, arrived in Paris for the opening of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games. For the first time in history, the ceremony, which brings together heads of state, sports leaders and Olympians, it will not be at a stadium, but along the Seine River and will end at the Trocadero square, emblematic of the French capital,” reports BTA.

After Paris, Lecheva will travel to the city of Chateauroux. The shooting competitions will be held at the National Shooting Center in the center of mainland France and more than 230 kilometers from the capital. The first medal at the Olympic Games was awarded precisely in shooting.

“Our competitors are detached from the great euphoria, which is perhaps a good thing. There is nothing more to be done regarding their preparation in the remaining literally hours, so I can only wish them luck,” Vesela Lecheva commented.

In the Olympic competition in Paris 2024, 340 archers will compete, who will distribute medals in 15 disciplines from July 27 to August 5. Bulgaria is represented by Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Antoineta Kostadinova, who is one of the most experienced athletes in the country’s entire Olympic delegation, as well as Kiril Kirov.

For Vesela Lecheva, these are the sixth Games, as she competed in four of them and won two silver medals – Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992.

“Even though I have so many Olympic Games behind me, this will be the first opening that I will be attending because my schedule has never allowed it before. So I’m excited about the upcoming spectacle,” Lecheva also told vesselaletcheva.com.
