(ANSA) – LOS ANGELES, JULY 3 – Los Angeles welcomes the flagship of Made in Italy. The Italian Navy training ship, the Amerigo Vespucci, has arrived at the port of San Pedro. It left Genoa on July 1, 2023 and is touching the Californian metropolis as part of an international tour of five continents and three oceans. The historic sailing ship will remain in the city until July 8. Until then, it will be possible to book a free visit on board and stop at the “Villaggio Italia”, set up at the dock: 12,000 square meters with stands of institutions and Made in Italy companies, spaces for film screenings, art exhibitions and a restaurant. Today the inauguration ceremony in the presence of the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, the ambassador Mariangela Zappia, the consul general Raffaella Valentini, the Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles Erin Bromaghim and, obviously, the military officials accompanying the sailing ship. A key moment of the celebrations will be tomorrow, July 4, when the Frecce Tricolori will take flight over the city of angels. They will also do so on July 6 and 8, to greet the ship on its departure for Hawaii. “The arrival in the United States of the most beautiful ship in the world – as the US Navy itself defines it – and of all of Italy that it brings with it, is a source of pride for us and fits perfectly into the action of diplomacy for the growth of the Farnesina that we carry forward in the United States together with all the players of the Italian System”, highlighted Ambassador Zappia. “We are happy that the training ship Amerigo Vespucci and the Villaggio Italia have chosen Los Angeles, the center of gravity of one of the most dynamic areas of the United States and the world; a land where creativity, enterprise, culture, innovation stand out, also thanks to the contribution of many Italian talents, the same strengths of the Made in Italy that we promote here”, she concluded. The local Italian-American community is celebrating.
