After 31 years in various positions, Birgit Fenderl is leaving ORF to become self-employed. The 53-year-old will continue to host the infotainment magazine “Studio 2” on ORF2 until the end of the year, as “Die Presse” has learned.

Fenderl is the only employed host there and could have hosted the magazine starting next year after the format receives a relaunch. However, she declined to do so in order to start a second career as a freelance host and dedicate herself to her own projects, as she informed her closest circle. She plans to reveal what those projects are at a later date. In any case, the native Viennese, mother of 19-year-old actress Anna Fenderl, has increasingly felt the desire in recent years not to retire from ORF but to try something new and reinvent herself.

Youngest “Zeit im Bild” host

Fenderl is a trained Romance language specialist and political scientist; she speaks Italian, English, French, and Spanish. After “ZiB 3,” “Report,” and the daily editions of “Zeit im Bild,” she has hosted “Studio 2” for six years. At 25, she was the youngest journalist to ever host a “Zeit im Bild” program. Recently, she also hosted several royal programs on ORF, which lasted up to eight hours and achieved very high ratings.
