The VfB Stuttgart has reached the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The Swabians achieved a lightly and effortlessly played victory against Preußen Münster.

The joy of the Stuttgarters was restrained after the final whistle. That VfB Stuttgart would reach the 2nd round of the DFB-Pokal was actually already clear at half-time. In the end, there was a confidently played 5:0 (3:0) win against second-division newcomers Preußen Münster – and the realization that Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team is (still) a level above the Westphalians.

Angelo Stiller (7th minute), Ermedin Demirovic (15th), and Pascal Stenzel (35th) scored for the guests before half-time. Nick Woltemade then increased the lead to 4:0 (72nd). Atakan Karazor converted a penalty to make it 5:0 (80th).

“Our goal was to set a clear signal right away. We know that the first round can be tricky,” said scorer Demirovic in ARD: “We took control of the game. I’m satisfied with how it turned out.”

Stiller converts for VfB Stuttgart

After a rather cautious start from both teams, Stuttgart really got going after just over five minutes. After the Münster team initially struggled to prevent a goal, the resulting corner caused even more confusion in the Preußen defense.

After some jostling in the penalty area, the ball fell at the feet of VfB midfielder Stiller, who had no trouble converting from seven meters to put the Swabians ahead 1:0 early on.

Highly concentrated Stuttgarters

However, Preußen was only briefly impressed. After twelve minutes, they tried to create a goal-scoring opportunity, but the final pass was too inaccurate. But the Stuttgarters remained highly concentrated – and struck back immediately.

Stiller crossed the ball from the left edge of the penalty area in front of the Münster goal, striker Demirovic was able to finish completely unchallenged from five meters out to make it 2:0 with a header.

Preußen Münster continues to attack

Shortly thereafter, it was again Demirovic who had a chance for the third goal, but Preußen goalkeeper Morten Behrens was able to save this time. However, the Münster team remained faithful to their rather offensive approach but could hardly create any significant chances.

A wayward long-range shot from Preußen attacker Joel Grodowski after 30 minutes was the hosts’ first notable approach to goal.

Training match for Stuttgart

But once again, the Stuttgarters showed their superiority. This time, Demirovic crossed from the left corner of the penalty area, and Stenzel needed only to convert with his head – completely unmarked – from five meters to make it 3:0.

It increasingly turned into a training match for Coach Hoeneß’s team, as they were too dominant against largely overwhelmed players from Münster.

Preußen with higher intensity

At the start of the second half, the Preußen tried to increase the tempo, with Babis Makridis even having a good shooting chance for a consolation goal after a corner. But Stuttgart appeared largely unimpressed and remained the clearly better team, even as Münster increased their intensity.

Woltemade then also scored with a curl from 15 meters into the top right corner to make it 4:0. Karazor scored from the penalty spot – after a handball by Preußen defender Mikkel Kirkeskov – for the final score of 5:0.
