Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in Cuenca delivered 216 hearing aids – Ministry of Public Health

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP), through the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in Cuenca, delivered 216 hearing aids to beneficiaries in the cities of Quito, Salcedo, Cuenca, Cañar and La Troncal, with an investment of USD 210,000. This as part of the Project to Strengthen Comprehensive Care, Detection, Prevention, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of People with Disabilities.

10 cochlear implants, 6 osseointegrated implants and 200 behind-the-ear hearing aids were delivered in a special act, with the presence of national, local and provincial authorities. These devices allow hearing in some cases, for the first time, and in others, improve the hearing of children, youth, adults and seniors.

Lisbeth Moreira is the mother of Danae, a 2-year-old girl who benefited from the delivery of cochlear implants. “My daughter was born without hearing, but today, thanks to God, the Ministry of Health and the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, she can hear for the first time.”

“As an institution we are focused on providing a better quality of life and permanent support. For this year, more than 2 million dollars were allocated nationwide for the acquisition of cochlear implants,” said Andrés Guerra, manager of the MSP Disabilities Project.

From 2014 to the present date, the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital has delivered 183 cochlear implants, 112 osseointegrated implants, 1,555 hearing aids and 96 bone conduction headbands. The delivered devices have benefited patients from various provinces of the country.

This State portfolio maintains its commitment to provide comprehensive care to the vulnerable population that requires greater opportunity and access to health services.
