It is a cry of despair. An owner whose house has been squatted for two years, in Toulon (83), has decided to wait firmly in front of the headquarters of GMF Assurances, in Levallois-Perret (92). So he set up his tent in front of the entrance, resolved not to move. The police, however, removed him in less than 24 hours. This is not the first time that Cyril has set up his tent in front of his insurer’s offices. Already in January, he had started a hunger strike for 5 days in order to get his insurer to react in Manosque, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
At the end of his tether, Cyril no longer knows what to do to put an end to the nightmare he has been living through for two years. It all starts when he put his house up for rent in 2021. The tenants separated and the woman was placed under curatorship. He then had to deal with unpaid rent. His property was then squatted during the absence of the tenant and even became a point of deal. The house is deteriorating so much that in February 2022 it is the subject of an insalubrity procedure putting the owner on notice to carry out major work within 6 months.
1 euro per day for food
The descent into hell of the owner does not stop there. A fire breaks out in his house. A mattress and a beam in the mezzanine would have caught fire. “There are no more windows, no more locks… The house is in a deplorable state when it was a small family home at first“, laments the owner to the Parisian. He intends to obtain compensation for the damage suffered but, on the side of the insurance of his former tenant, Generali, it gets stuck. It would be impossible, according to the expert appointed by the insurer, to distinguish the damage caused by the squatters from that possibly committed by the tenant. Generali therefore refuses to pay a single kopeck and the GMF does not want to pay either. The amount of work would be 250,000 euros while the owner acquired his house for 200,000 euros. He would therefore be forced to pay more money to restore his house than for the purchase of his property.
The 40-year-old is no longer able to repay his loan. He then lost his job and even experienced serious health problems. Banned from banking, he ends up sleeping in his car with 1 euro a day to eat. In the meantime, he is determined to stay in front of the offices of the GMF even without his tent in order to win his case. A call for help for the moment remained unanswered.
