Alizé Cornet, 64th in the world, qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome on Wednesday, the final rehearsal before Roland-Garros (May 28-June 11), beating the Czech Tereza Martincova (95th) 7-6 (7 /2), 6-4. In the next round, the 33-year-old Niçoise will face the Chinese Qinwen Zheng (21st).

The only other Frenchwoman in the running in Rome in the women’s draw, Caroline Garcia (4th), must enter the running Thursday in the second round against the Romanian Ana Bogdan (59th).
