The national player of Bulgaria for the “Billie Jean King Cup” Isabella Shinikova qualified for the second round of singles at the red court tennis tournament in Santa Margherita di Pula (Italy) with a prize fund of 25 thousand dollars.

The Bulgarian ranked number 3 defeated the qualifier Eleonora Alvizi (Italy) 7:6 (5), 4:6, 6:3 in 2.52 hours.

Shinikova led 5:2 in the first set, but conceded an equalizer at 5:5. With that result, she saved three break points, and then it came to a tiebreak. In it, the national took the lead with 6:4 points and won the set on her second chance. In the second part, the Bulgarian lost three consecutive games from 4:3 to 6:3. In the third decisive set, Shinikova led 4:2, and after another break she won 6:3.

In the second round, she will play against the winner of the match between Tatiana Pieri (Italy) and Lara Schmidt (Germany).

Qualifier Iva Ivanova lost in the first round of singles 1:6, 1:6 to fourth seed Katarina Hobgarski (Germany) in 53 minutes.

Before that, the 18-year-old Ivanova achieved two victories in the qualifiers without losing a set.
