Victory in 55 seats… Nepali Congress consults with other parties to form the government

Voting for the 275-member Parliament and 550-member 7 Provincial Legislatures in Nepal was held on the 20th of last month. After that, the counting of votes is going on. Of the 275 members of Parliament, 165 are elected by direct vote and the remaining 110 by proportional representation.

Results for 162 constituencies have been announced so far out of 165 constituencies that will be directly selected. In this, the ruling party Nepali Congress has won 55 seats and is the single largest party. CPN-UML Kadasi is in second position with 44 seats.

With the support of 138 members required to form the government, no party could secure a majority. Therefore, the Nepali Congress Party is negotiating with the support of other parties to form the government.

Regarding this, the senior leader of Nepal Congress Party and former Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh (age 66) said, ‘We are consulting with various political parties to form the government. After the results of all the constituencies are declared and the seats allocated on the basis of proportional voting system are decided, we will elect the Parliamentary Party Leader,” he said.

Nepal Congress Party has 6 leaders in the race for the post of Prime Minister. Prakash Man Singh was one of them.
