Some footballers blue, led by their captain and emblem Wendie Renard, had announced a few days ago their decision to resign from the national team – and, in return, to compete in the World Cup this summer – in a new cry to heaven for professional working conditions for soccer players. “Unfortunately, I will not play this World Cup in these conditions. My face may hide the pain, but my heart is suffering… and I don’t want to suffer any more,” said the captain in the statement announcing her decision. Now, FFF has decided to remove Diacre from her position a day after she stood up and announced that she did not intend to resign.

“I am fully determined to fulfill my mission and, above all, to fulfill France during the next World Cup,” Corinne Diacre said in a statement hours before the executive committee of the French Football Federation decided to remove her from the bench of the national team. The former national team assured that she was the victim of “a smear campaign” to leave the French women’s national team whose “only goal is personal revenge”. The Federation, after taking the decision, has stated that the rift between the coach and the staff has reached a “point of no return” which harms the interests of the national team, as it has observed, after several conversations, a gap “very important” and a discrepancy with the “requirements of the very high level” has been highlighted.

The strength of soccer players

On February 24, the French women’s national team began to falter: Wendie Renard, captain and standard bearer of the French national team, announced her intention not to play in the World Cup. “I have defended the blue, white and red shirt 142 times with passion, respect, commitment and professionalism. I love France above all […], but I cannot continue to support the current system, which is far from the highest level requirements. It is a sad day, but necessary to preserve my mental health,” the letter began. “It is with great regret that I inform you of my decision to withdraw from the French national team. Unfortunately I will not play this World Cup in these conditions. The face may hide the pain, but my heart hurts… and I don’t want to suffer anymore. Thank you for your support and for respecting my decision,” added the Olympique de Lyon captain. Now, the Federation has decided to take a step forward and set a precedent. Corinne Deacon is no longer the coach five months before the World Cup and after five years in the position. The Spanish team is in a very similar situation, with an end still uncertain. Fifteen footballers, with the support of the captains, have decided to give up competing with the state team if measures are not taken regarding their working conditions. The position of the Spanish Federation is very different and the coach, Jorge Vilda, has been ratified by the organization after the demands.
