Marco Rose worked in Mönchengladbach until the summer. Now he returned to the old place of work for the first time with BVB – and went bankrupt. However, the coach also had to do without two top stars.
VThe return to the old place of work couldn’t have been much worse. Almost three months after his much-criticized departure from Mönchengladbach, Marco Rose was welcomed by the old followers with whistles and abusive chants.
He wanted to try to hide the reaction of the fans, the 45-year-old, who moved on to Dortmund for a million dollar transfer in the summer, explained in advance of the game. Outwardly unaffected, he took note of the hustle and bustle in the stands – 25,000 spectators were there. But maybe he was just stunned by the tired performance of his new Borussia, which suffered the second defeat of the season at 0: 1 (0: 1).
Without the short-term missed top performers Marco Reus (capsule irritation in the knee) and Erling Haaland (muscular problems), BVB could not develop offensive force as usual. Above all, the failure of the Norwegian goalscorer was enormously noticeable. Substitute Youssoufa Moukoko remained as pale as his neighbor Donyell Malen. Together both came to only 20 ball actions in the first half.

There was little convergence at the front and BVB is currently not stable enough at the back to at least keep the zero. Gladbach, trained by Adi Hütter, could not shine in terms of play either, but it was poisonous and was rewarded for it. In the 37th minute, Denis Zakaria played an unwanted one-two with Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and scored from close range to make it 1-0.

Because Mahmoud Dahoud saw yellow-red only three minutes later because of a complaint, it became even more difficult for BVB when they were outnumbered. Even after changing sides, Gladbach had more traction to goal – BVB, on the other hand, was without a goal for the first time after 37 Bundesliga games in a row.
