BOLZANO. Girls in t-shirts, pigtails, pink bows. Boys in white shirts and ties. The video shows them sitting between the desks. The narrator talks about “gender gap”: «Defend your rights and assert yourself, assert yourself».
Repeated endlessly so it resonates well. Then away with gender stereotypes. He will be the head doctor, she will be the nurse. Engineer and secretary. University teacher and kindergarten teacher. Until a girl says no. And then the system breaks, the “it’s always been like this” fails and she wants to be a firefighter, a managing director, an engineer, a construction site foreman and an airplane pilot. He too discards, goes off the rails of common thought and imagines himself as a beautician, cleaner, kindergarten teacher, etc.
These are some frames of video from the 3H of the Carducci linguistic high school who won the national competition “Lessons on the Constitution, from parliamentary halls to school classrooms”. The class is expected on May 29th Montecitorio for the award ceremony. The following day, on the anniversary of Giacomo Matteotti’s last speech (30 May 1924), the meeting with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella.
The teachers Carlo Dal Rì (Letters) e Sabrina Tesolin (Natural Sciences), are the curators of the project which opens a careful reflection on the recognition of those mechanisms, often subtle, at the basis of gender inequality and prejudice. The director, videomaker is Diego Carli.
Cristina Crepaldi, high school director, speaks of very strong emotion. «We are very proud of the result obtained. We, inclusive, on the front line for reducing the gender gap, for the protection of women and against any barrier that creates diversity. Important recognition because we won the special “Marta Genoviè De Vita” award for the use of information technologies in an innovative category and I am referring to the development of teaching methodologies.”
The students’ in-depth study – say the teachers – starts from articles 3 and 4 of the Constitution and reaches the impact that these rights have on the territory between “Eurac Research” (“Gender Dynamics” group), University, “Woman, family and youth” office ” of the municipality and testing center “Laimburg”.
As Carlo Dal Rì: «We are very satisfied and proud to receive this important recognition. The class worked with great enthusiasm, demonstrating curiosity and interest towards the topic of the gender gap. It is often said that the young generations are disinterested in politics, but these young people have instead demonstrated that they believe in the importance of constitutional values, which they have made their own and which they will undertake to realize in their future – including professional ones. In fact, what emerged most was this strong desire to break down the stereotypes that often still cage our society, together with the desire to build a fairer and more just society. Personally I say that if the future is in the hands of these kids, then we are in excellent hands.”
The hands are those of Lorenzo Bisogno, Leonardo Casucci, Luca Cereser, Alessia Cotrus, Anna De Pasquale, Elisa Di Monaco, Laura Fiorillo, Valentina Fontana, Iman Hadid, Arige Khalfaoui, Miriam Lacarbonara, Davis Masarin, Gaia Mazzarano, Miriam Mussomeli Lombardo, Sara Pasolli, Giorgia Peretto , Chiara Polonioli, Maximiliam Pramstrahler, Eleonora Maria Salvatori, Chiara Terlizzi, Elisa Zancanaro.
