At least nine Salvadorans died this Saturday in a stampede of fans who went to the Cuscatlán stadium in San Salvador to see a match in the local soccer tournament between the Alianza and FAS teams, reported the National Civil Police (PNC).

Several injured fans are being taken to nearby hospitals, at least 2 of them in critical condition.

“The number of deaths after the stampede at the Cuscatlán Stadium amounts to 9,” the security body stated on Twitter.
“Several injured fans are being taken to nearby hospitals, at least 2 of them in critical condition,” police added.
According to the security body, “the first reports point to a stampede of fans who tried to enter to watch the match between Alianza and FAS.
On the other hand, the police reported that they are working to expedite the entrance and exit to the stadium, in order to allow the passage of ambulances.
