After waiting several months for her body, Iryna Kadovska has just buried her fallen husband in the Kharkiv region in April 2022. “He was not afraid of anything and that always annoyed me”, she laments in tears.

Tetyana Taranenko also salutes the courage of her deceased husband. Returning from a business trip in March 2022, Sergiï Taranenko, immediately joined the Ukrainian army. Wounded for the first time in combat near Kharkiv, he decided to take up arms again. He was transferred to the 77th Brigade and died at the front, Tetyana explains on his grave.

Last December, the Ukrainian authorities declared between 10,000 and 13,000 soldiers fallen at the front. But the subject is taboo aside for kyiv and several experts believe that this assessment is largely underestimated. On February 24, 2023, it will be a year since the Russians launched their “special operation” to invade Ukraine.
