The US authorities announced that the fire that has been raging in northern California for 3 days has become one of the largest fires ever recorded in the history of the state located in the western United States.

According to US media, the state’s Cal Fire agency reported that the Park Fire is the most severe wildfire to hit California this summer, adding that the fire had consumed nearly 142,000 hectares by Saturday, making it the seventh largest fire in the state’s history.

The agency indicated that “the harsh conditions of this fire continue to pose a challenge to the firefighters.”

She added: “At the moment, it is only 0% under control, despite the efforts of about 2,500 people, more than 10 helicopters and a number of planes.”

The fire forced more than 4,000 people to evacuate their homes, as it broke out in a rural, mountainous area near the small town of Chico, about 145 kilometers north of Sacramento, the state capital. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, in order to speed up the authorities’ actions.

The National Weather Service issued a “fire hazard warning due to weather conditions, particularly strong winds and low humidity.”

“Recurring heat waves are a sign of global warming linked to climate change caused by humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels,” scientists say, and the suffocating heat currently sweeping the United States comes on the heels of the world’s hottest June on record.
