Dubai: The Dubai court sentenced a 32-year-old man to six months in prison for threatening a young woman and sending her obscene pictures to her family. The Court of Appeal upheld the judgment of the Dubai Court of First Instance. The woman filed a complaint in April.

The young woman and the accused were in love earlier. The ex-boyfriend later used the footage of the video call they made while they were in love to threaten the young woman. The woman says that she obeyed everything the young man told her during the video call and that she did so in the belief that they would get married. But the woman said that she was shocked when she saw her video clips on WhatsApp. When the young man was asked about the same, he replied that these are the scenes and clips recorded during the video call.

He threatened to send the video and pictures to the girl’s father and friends if she did not pay Dh25,000. After this, the woman paid money, but the accused sent obscene pictures to the woman’s father. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the youth. His phone was also seized. After the completion of the sentence, the youth will be deported.

Ras Al Khaimah: The heavy vehicle driver was sentenced to one month imprisonment in the death of an expatriate after being hit by a vehicle in Ras Al Khaimah. The court also ordered to pay 200,000 dirhams as compensation to the family of the deceased expatriate. The vehicle coming down the steep hill hit the Asian man who was sitting on the roadside.

The family of the 54-year-old expatriate approached the Ras Al Khaimah Traffic Misdemeanors Court seeking compensation. The court also ordered that the driver, the company that owns the vehicle and the insurance company should pay 90,000 dirhams to the expatriate’s wife and two children. The family filed the case citing the hardships they faced after the death of the expatriate, who was the only source of income for the family. The case was filed demanding a compensation of Dh150,000.
