VIDEO. Death of rapper Takeoff: “It’s as if in the 1970s, we had eliminated a Bee Gees”

by time news

Atlanta rappers and trap music pioneers, the three members of the group Migos became world stars in 2013 with the single “Versace”. On the night of October 31, Takeoff, one of his singers, was shot dead in a shooting in Houston. “It’s as if in the 1970s, we had eliminated a Bee Gees”, summarizes Fred Musa, presenter of the Planet rap show on hip-hop radio Skyrock.

From the 2010s, the Migos “revolutionized the musical genre” of trap. Quavo, Takeoff and Offset have become masters in the use of ad-libs, these onomatopoeias that artists sometimes pronounce between two verses or at the end of a sentence to give even more impact to their text.

But the Migos were also “bad boys”, emphasizes Fred Musa. Former members of the Black Migo Gang specializing in burglaries, “they almost always walked around calibrated” and shootings “often broke out at their concerts”. For some rappers, even with success and millions, “it is often difficult to leave the street”, recalls the presenter. In the case of Takeoff’s death, “it was the street that caught up with him”.
