Video: Dozens killed in floods and cyclones in India and Vietnam

29 people have been killed in floods caused by heavy rains in the southern Indian state of Telangana.

The Business Standard newspaper quoted a statement from the office of the state governor, Shanti Kumari, which stated that “heavy rains and recent floods have killed 29 people in Telangana state.”

“29 out of 33 districts in the state are affected by floods due to rainfall,” Kumari said.

In late August, the Hindustan Times reported that more than 20 people had died and nearly two million had been affected by floods in the eastern Indian state of Tripura.

Typhoon Yagi kills 14 in northern Vietnam

The Vietnamese National Committee for Disaster Response and Rescue announced that “at least 14 people were killed and more than 180 others were injured in Typhoon Yagi that hit northern Vietnam.”

According to the committee, “The capital Hanoi, the cities of Cam Phe, Mong Cai, Haiphong and Ha Long, as well as the northern provinces, were the hardest hit by the disaster. The typhoon damaged more than 400 power transmission towers and 27 power substations, forcing power outages. More than 121,000 hectares of rice and other agricultural crops were flooded, and more than 5,000 fruit trees were damaged. In coastal areas, 38 ships and fishing boats were sunk or lost. The typhoon destroyed roofs and damaged thousands of homes, and shattered the glass and facades of many high-rise buildings.”
