Since the end of September, Blumenschlössl boss Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl (3rd from right), daughter Olivia Leskovar (2nd from right) and Christina Renzl (r.) have been working on this year’s Advent exhibition with their employees Rosi, Elisabeth, Isolde and Grit.

“We are a Salzburg family business that has existed for 65 years. And we still do a lot ourselves,” reports Blumenschlössl boss Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl. Santa Claus, for example, is still made by her father, who founded the company with his wife “and built it up with a lot of hard work,” as Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl reports. With daughter Olivia Leskovar, the next generation is already active in the company.

In addition to the classic Christmas red, colors such as sage, taupe and violet are in demand this year. Christmas trees made of fire-safe plastic are also trendy, says Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl. She and her employees cleaned up 30 Christmas trees this year. Velvet ribbons and candles were colored according to the different color concepts, which are then processed into small and large works of art in the in-house workshop.

To match the different colors and motifs – nutcrackers, but also skiers and gondola lifts are particularly popular this year – fabrics were purchased, which were then sewn into upholstery and other things by the in-house seamstress. “We couldn’t manage all of this without our employees. Because then you can have as many ideas as you want – without our employees we wouldn’t be able to implement them,” emphasizes the entrepreneur.

Because more and more people want to put themselves through the stress of having a real Christmas tree – be it because of the needles or because they are traveling for Christmas – trees made of fire-safe plastic are in vogue, says Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl. “These trees look very real and are lit with LEDs.” It not only supplies the hotel industry, but private individuals are also increasingly becoming buyers of plastic Christmas trees. “We have Christmas trees ranging in size from 50 centimeters to more than three meters,” she emphasizes.

Even after weeks of decorating work, she says she’ll still be in the Christmas spirit when the time comes. In her private life, she uses the colors brown and silver for decoration – because after the intensive weeks in the shop, she needs somewhat calmer colors, says Claudia Wonnebauer-Renzl.
