STORY: Solar panels as far as the eye can see. A 204-megawatt solar park was inaugurated around 120 kilometers west of Thessaloniki on Wednesday. On this occasion, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also came to visit. The plant is part of the country’s planned energy transition. The solar park in the northern Greek city of Kozani, built by Greece’s largest oil refiner Hellenic Petroleum, is expected to supply around 75,000 households with electricity and will be connected to the grid in the coming weeks. According to the European Union, Greece has met its 2020 target by covering 21.7% of its energy consumption with renewable energy. And this share is set to increase to 35% by 2030.
