“It’s a life project. I spent half my life on it, ”sums up Mohamed Soliman, Mido by his nickname. At only 25 years old, he succeeded in realizing his dream, that of creating the first electric rollerblades in the world, the AtmosGear rollerblades, now available for pre-order.
The inspiration, he found it a long time ago, in 2009. A schoolboy in fifth grade, in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), he discovered by chance on the TV in his living room the cartoon Air Gear, based on the manga of the same name. Mido clicks. The young man then directs his entire career according to his dream: to invent them.
After having “worked in prep” in the wealthy 16th arrondissement of Paris, he joined UTC, the engineering school of Compiègne (Oise). An establishment in which he still returns almost every day: the “HQ of the AtmosRiders”, the offices of his company, AtmosGear, has been located there for two years. A real “laboratory” where all the tests and prototypes of skates have been carried out.
The rise continues at CES in Las Vegas in January 2023, the biggest tech event in the world. “It propelled our pre-order campaign”, says the engineer: 262 people pre-ordered a pair of AtmosGear skates, while their ambitions were 200 pre-orders.
The machine can go up to 25 km / h, with 20 kilometers of autonomy, and is recharged by a battery. Pre-order buyers, who have paid between 500 and 600 euros, will receive their skates by this summer… Perfect timing for them to have “the best summer of their lives”, hopes Mohamed Soliman.
