Slightly jerky image and bluffing voice of realism, the artificial intelligences of French President Emmanuel Macron and General de Gaulle respond to viewers of the Twitch channel of DefendIntelligence, Anis Ayari of his real name. So we, too, spoke with the two digital versions of these political figures.

Avatars respond tit for tat to randomly selected questions in chat, as long as they begin with “yomanu!” or “yogeneral!” “. And from the outset, the tone of Emmanuel Macron as of General de Gaulle is quite offbeat. “It’s a will, because it’s what works best in terms of entertainment, explains their creator Anis Ayari, artificial intelligence engineer for DeepLayer AI. It’s still satire. »

But the project, entirely coded live on his channel and requiring more than thirty hours of work, has also become a tool for reflection. Because, depending on the political figure presented to them, the reactions of Internet users are radically different. “With Emmanuel Macron, people tend to winnow him, to ask him to justify his mandate”, analyzes the engineer. In front of the general, on the other hand, the spectators address the AI as you say, and ask him for anecdotes “like a grandpa to whom we would speak on a Sunday”, laughs Anis Ayari. Many also ask for the general’s opinion on current politics in France, but the AI always responds with calm, or humor.

But since then, the two artificial intelligences have been permanently banned from Twitch, this Tuesday evening, August 29. The reason: Emmanuel Macron’s AI pronouncing the name of Death to the Jews, the former name of a hamlet in Loiret. The virtual clone was asked to give the “top 3 worst names of French villages”.

Twitch’s algorithm considered the mention of this hamlet as “hateful and violent speech”, banning Anis Ayari from accessing its platform. “I made sure that the AI was neither racist, nor homophobic, nor misogynistic, etc. From a moral point of view, already, but also because the channel could be banned ”, explained Anis Ayari to us, a few hours before seeing his account definitively deleted.

DefendIntelligence therefore fell back on Kick, Twitch’s main competitor, to continue to make its AI exist. And he does not intend to stop there, since the virtual version of Jacques Chirac has already appeared live, and Elon Musk should also see the light of day: “I would like to create debates between these characters, so that they exchange their ideas, why not in a satirical tone”, foresees Anis Ayari. So yes, General de Gaulle discussing politics with Elon Musk, it will soon be possible.
