STORY: In the Philippine capital of Manila, residents tried everything they could to protect their homes from the wind and rain on Saturday. Dozens of people have already died in the Southeast Asian island nation as a result of tropical storm “Nalgae”. The civil protection authority reported 45 dead on Saturday. Previously there had even been talk of over 70 fatalities. After consultation with the rescue workers on site, however, this had to be corrected, it said. “Nalgae” hit the Philippine coast on Saturday morning with gusts of up to 160 kilometers per hour. In the south of the country, the storm had already triggered landslides and floods in advance. The weather authority expects further, sometimes torrential rain in the capital region and the surrounding provinces. Manila’s coastal areas have been evacuated, the mayor’s office said.
