A video shows the seconds of anguish that a pilot and two passengers experienced when they got off the helicopter in Panama.
They left the aircraft on and it began to spin on its own at high speed and almost caused a tragedy in Bocas del Toro on Saturday.
Everything seemed normal, until a serious procedural error was made.
The pilot got off the aircraft, assisted the passengers and left the helicopter on.
“It is a maneuver that does not have a procedure, it is not normal for a pilot to get off the helicopter without having left the aircraft secured, the engine off, everything off, to go and attend to the passenger, lack of procedure, there was no support staff on the ground,” explained Carlos Vargas, helicopter expert.
The situation got out of control and the pilot struggled, risking his life, in an attempt to enter the aircraft.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths.
However, it was a great shock that the pilot and the two passengers remembered the rest of their lives.
“There was either a blow of wind on the tail rotor, or the helicopter accelerated, but the most common thing is that there is wind,” Vargas added.
