Martin County Police in Florida announced on Sunday the arrest of a suspect in a shooting incident outside the resort of Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump, who was inside the resort at the time.

CNN quoted the county police chief as saying that the suspect, whom Palm Beach County police were searching for, had been arrested.

The New York Post reported that Ryan Wesley Roth, a suspect in Trump’s attempt, had previously traveled to Ukraine and raised funds for the Kiev regime.

The newspaper pointed out that “Roth tried to promote the idea of sending American veterans of the conflict in Afghanistan to Ukraine, and he also expressed his desire to personally fight alongside Kiev’s forces.”

Trump’s campaign had earlier announced that the former president was fine after shots were fired from outside the fence of his golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., quoted law enforcement authorities as saying they had found an AK-47 automatic rifle and that a suspect had been taken into custody.

The White House said in a statement that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had been briefed on the incident and were “relieved to learn he is safe. They will be updated regularly.”

Meanwhile, Harris, Trump’s competitor in the November 5 election, posted a tweet on Twitter expressing her happiness that the former president is well and saying that “violence has no place in America.”

The FBI said Sunday it was investigating an assassination attempt on Trump, at a news conference with law enforcement, the state attorney general and the Secret Service. The Secret Service said its agents opened fire on a person at a golf course in Florida belonging to Trump, who was there at the time.

The FBI representative asked residents to stay away from the scene and provide any information they have about the shooting.

Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, just months before a presidential election that is likely to be a close contest between him and Harris.

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that the Secret Service investigation confirmed security lapses that paved the way for the attempted assassination of Trump in Pennsylvania, and revealed new information, including that agents did not direct local police to secure the roof of the building used by the gunman, according to senior government officials familiar with the investigation.
