A few flowers and candles in the face of terror and dismay… The residents of Square Adam-de-la-Halle, in the Beauval district of Meaux (77), were in shock the day after the discovery of the bodies of Béatrice and her four children, found dead Monday evening in their family apartment on the ground floor. The husband and father, the main suspect, was arrested Tuesday morning in Sevran (93), then placed in police custody.

“I still don’t realize it,” murmurs a friend and neighbor of Béatrice. She was the one who notified the police, having not heard from her girlfriend. “He was a very good person. She only lived for her marriage, only for her children.” All the neighbors we meet describe a kind and smiling young woman… and a much more solitary and taciturn husband. “He was a very depressed person. It was complicated to communicate with him, he was in his bubble.”

The 33-year-old man, arrested in the morning at his father’s house in Sevran, indicated “knowing why he was in police custody, and spoke of his personal discomfort and his depression”, in the words of the public prosecutor of Meaux, Jean-Baptiste Bladier, who held a press point during the day. Since 2017, the father has been monitored for depressive and psychotic disorders. Prescriptions prescribing tranquilizers were found at the home.

Without a criminal record, he nevertheless stabbed his partner in 2019. The latter refused to file a complaint. An investigation was opened and the spouse was placed in police custody before being hospitalized in a psychiatric unit. He said he did not want to hurt his wife whom he loved. The procedure was dismissed on the grounds of “deficient mental state”.
