A video released on social media showed the moment when all cell phones in the United States simultaneously triggered alarms this Wednesday (4). In the images, four phones ring at the same time and it is possible to hear a message.
The simultaneous ringing took place at 2:20 pm this Wednesday (4), American East Coast time (3:20 pm in Brasília) and is part of a safety test carried out by Fema (US Federal Emergency Management Agency).
The objective of the operation was to verify whether alert systems continue to be effective in alerting the public about emergencies, especially those at a national level.
The national alert was carried out in two parts: first, messages were sent to all cell phones in the country; in the second phase, messages were sent to radio and television.
At the scheduled time, Americans received the following message: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is required.”
To ensure alerts are accessible to all audiences, including people with disabilities, messages are accompanied by a unique tone and vibe. Everyone will receive the same message displayed in English or Spanish, depending on the device’s language settings.
