On Monday, September 23, Orekhovaya Gorka in Narva was full of youth energy – a charity relay race was held here, in which more than 400 school children took part.
This large-scale event opened the annual Estonian Sports Week in our city, which will already include more than 1,100 active events in 2024.
According to Olga Bortsova, the chief specialist of the culture and sports service of the Culture Department of the Narva City Government, 55 teams of school children from the fifth to the ninth grade took part in the Narva charity relay race. “Each team had eight participants, that is, there were a total of 440 students from Narva schools,” Bortsova clarified.
The participants of the relay, which started at 14.00, started with a normal trial run. And then, as part of the participating teams, they covered a distance between 200 and 400 meters on the territory of the Äkkeküla sports center.
The winners have not been announced, as the biggest thing in the charity relay, which is running for the 19th time, is participation. Her goal is to bring sports to her community, to involve children in movement, so that they do it with joy, move and respect a healthy lifestyle.
But at the same time it is also a very noble event. Under the auspices of the Haapsalu Neurological Rehabilitation Center Foundation, the relay race helps Estonian children who have lost the ability to move.
This year, the charity relay race, which is the country’s biggest sports event for young people, will take place in 29 venues across Estonia.
