Sudan has been exposed to an unprecedented disaster, represented by the collapse of the “Arbaat” Dam in Port Sudan, as a result of the torrents and rains that have fallen heavily on the Sudanese states since the beginning of this month, causing floods that submerged entire villages, killed dozens, and left more than 100 people missing.

According to Al-Sudani newspaper, “the silt-laden water wiped out many villages from the face of the earth, while citizens took refuge in the mountains to save their lives.”

Eyewitnesses reported that “dozens of bodies were swept away by the water, some of them lying in pools of water and on the roadside, and that the current situation is similar to the “Hurricane Daniel” disaster that struck the Libyan city of Derna in September 2023.”

The Arbaat Dam is the main water resource for Port Sudan, the capital of the Red Sea State, eastern Sudan. It is located 40 kilometers north of Port Sudan.
