The governor of Chubut, Ignacio Torreswas interviewed on screen LN+ and announced that he will support the new treatment of the omnibus law promoted by Javier Milei’s government and that it would be sent to the Lower House in the coming weeks. “At least I believe that this law contemplates the points that generated the most consensus”he said and added: “I am optimistic”.

In that sense, the provincial leader of Pro, who had strong disagreements with the President over the withdrawal of co-participating funds, considered that there was a “change in attitude” in the Executive and that is why the dialogue is now more fluid. “There may be some dilemma with the tax chapter, specifically with rolling back Profits, or some new progressive tax that does not impact workers so harshly. But in the rest there is a broad consensus”, he indicated.

We need the law to advance because there are many paralyzed investments and the worst that can happen is uncertainty. We are going to collaborate with the treatment of the law, but that does not mean that we do not fight for what we believe,” he warned and anticipated that at this Thursday’s meeting the governors hope to close the differences that still persist.

In the same way, he ruled out that there is an official draft of the new Bases Law, and clarified: “The dialogue is still open. When you are in the Executive you have to get rid of prejudices. We must put an end to the ‘them’ and the ‘us’. We must govern for everyone.”

Also, when asked about his position regarding Milei’s call for the May Pact, Torres explained: “It seems important to me from a symbolic point of view. A kind of Moncloa Pact. “Shuffle and come up with premises again that no one could be against.”

However, he analyzed: “Many of the points are redundant because they are in the Constitution. You have to arrive with a job knowing the fine print. It is necessary, not only with the President, a federal pact that has to emerge from the provinces as well.”

Finally, he referred to the elimination by DNU of the transfers that Anses makes to 13 provincial retirement funds not transferred to the Nation. He said that he would only prosecute the issue if the Government updates the amounts it owes to historical and not current value. “We must differentiate: It is money from retirees, not from governors or provinces. It is the product of a fiscal pact from 2017. In addition, we signed an agreement with the Government when Osvaldo Giordano was at Anses, where it was stated that the deficit would be paid after the audits that had already been carried out. The commitment on our side is assumed”.

“The fact of judicializing an issue is not against the Government, but rather defending retirees within the framework of a law. “The law must be complied with by everyone, and in this case it establishes that the amount must be updated at the time it is updated.”
