Protests Continue in Chile as Power Outage Drags On
Protests against the Chilean power company Enel continued on Wednesday, as residents in many areas have been without electricity for over 120 hours. The outage has sparked widespread frustration and anger, leading to numerous demonstrations across the capital.
The mobilizations began last night and have spread to various arteries of the city, affecting neighborhoods like Las Condes, Lampa, and Quilicura. One demonstration took place on Pontevedra Street, between Martin Alonso Pinzon and Alonso de Camargo, near the Athens Roundabout.
Residents in Quinta Normal also took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the prolonged outage, which has left them without basic necessities. Many expressed their desperation and frustration, comparing the situation to the aftermath of the recent earthquake.
Protests have also erupted in other areas of the Metropolitan Region, including Lampa, where residents gathered on an overpass to voice their discontent. In Conchali, residents criticized Enel’s lack of communication regarding the situation.
The prolonged power outage has had a significant impact on the lives of residents, leading to massive food losses and difficulties for patients who require medication that needs to be refrigerated or is electrodedependent.
Enel has stated its commitment to restoring electricity to affected areas as quickly as possible.
