Vidit Bhargava Builds Duo-Man Walkman App for iPhone Duo

Developer Vidit Bhargava has built Duo-Man, a virtual Walkman app for Apple’s upcoming iPhone Duo. The software turns the foldable device’s hinge into a cassette-player door, using a 7.6-inch inner screen for loading digital tapes and a 5.4-inch outer display for playback ahead of the device’s October release.

How Duo-Man Turns the iPhone Duo Hinge Into a Cassette Player

The central interaction behind Duo-Man treats the hinge of Apple’s upcoming hardware not as a mechanical afterthought, but as the core interface. Built by indie developer Vidit Bhargava, the app divides the traditional Walkman experience across the device’s two physical states. When you open the iPhone Duo, its large inner display handles music selection and cassette loading. Snap the device shut, and the outer screen takes over for playback.

Long before the iPod, the Sony Walkman became an iconic product after Sony took an audio recorder designed for journalists and shrunk it into a compact cassette player. Because many attendees at the hackathon would never have seen a physical cassette player, the creator brought the real thing along to show them. That audio detail gives the hinge action a sensory dimension that a flat visual interface would miss entirely. The prototype secured second place at a San Francisco event, drawing heavy attention online and gathering over two million views on social media.

What Apple Music Support and Future Features Will Bring

The software was built during a BitRig hackathon in San Francisco using BitRig’s development environment for iPhone Duo software.
