Hanoi: A shocking case has come to light in Vietnam. Here a 31-year-old Indian citizen was admitted to a hospital in Hanoi on July 27 due to severe stomach pain. On examination, it was found that there was a live eel fish in his stomach. Actually, this person had inserted this fish into his body through his private part. The fish bit the rectum in an attempt to get out of his body and was entering the stomach. Le Nhat Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Colorectal and Perineal Surgery, said, ‘The eel had bitten the rectum and a part of the large intestine of the patient in an attempt to escape.’ Through several tests including X-rays, the skeleton of the eel was detected inside the abdominal cavity of the patient. Doctors initially tried to remove it through the anus but a lemon was blocking its path. This was also inserted by the person himself. Due to this, they had to do surgery in emergency. During the surgery, doctors found a live eel fish more than 25 inches long and about 4 inches in diameter. Doctors removed both the eel and the lemon and checked to see if there was anything else in the body.
Death occurs if treatment is not received
After the surgery, when it was confirmed that there was nothing else in the body, the doctors stitched the patient’s body. A colostomy was also done so that stool could not pass through the wound caused by the eel bite. Doctors say that if this person had not received timely treatment, he could have died. He will still have to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of his life. The hospital has not revealed the identity of the patient. Doctor Nahat said that he has performed surgery to remove objects stuck in the anus of many patients.
Such cases have come before
The hospital says such cases usually occur in young men who are homosexual and do not get sexual pleasure. To achieve this, they insert objects through their anus. The hospital has removed bottles, cups and adult toys from the bodies of other patients. But this is the first case of removing a live animal. Doctors say that eels are animals that could live in this condition for a long time. It was possible that it could have perforated the digestive system. This is not the first incident of its kind in Vietnam this year. In March, a 12-inch eel was removed from the private part of a 43-year-old man at Hai Ha District Medical Center in Quang Ninh province.
