Storedot from Herzliya, which developed batteries for electric vehicles that charge within a few minutes, announced today the completion of the first, and main part, of the D round of raising D, in which the company intends to raise up to $ 80 million. The new strategic partner joining the investment in the company is Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast, which has led the round of recruitment and also intends to manufacture and integrate Sturdot batteries in future models. Sturdot said the capital raised will allow the company to complete battery development and build the infrastructure needed for mass production, which is expected to begin in 2024.

VinFast was founded in 2017 by VinGroup, the largest Vietnamese corporation in the country. About two months ago, VinFast, which claims to be the first Vietnamese automaker to mass-produce and market its models in the international market, announced the establishment of a headquarters in California with an investment of about $ 200 million. About a month ago, VinFast led an investment in the cyber company for the Israeli car Karamba.

Store-Dot has developed the FlashBattery technology, which makes it possible to reduce the charging times of lithium-ion batteries in a vehicle to a few minutes. The company’s technology is based on new crystals called Nanodots measuring 2 nanometers each. These crystals have special properties: high capacitance and light production seen in bright colors and more. The batteries developed by the company replace the electrolytic liquid with a liquid containing Nanodots, thereby increasing the energy capacity of the battery at least tenfold.

In October, Sturdot announced the establishment of an R&D center in California, USA, as part of the development efforts of the next generation of the company’s car battery, which will be a solid state battery with a higher energy density and will provide a greater driving range of 50% From the current generation.

A solid-state battery is a battery in which the electrolyte, through which the ions pass in the process of charging and discharging between the two electrodes, is made of a solid material. In existing lithium-ion batteries, the electrolyte is usually in a state of solution or gel. Solid-state batteries are supposed to be safer, since existing batteries are exposed to the dangers of ignition or explosion at high temperatures and the dangers of liquid leakage. Also, the capacity of solid-state batteries should be greater, and therefore allow for a longer driving range. The challenge, however, is to develop a solid material that on the one hand will be stable and on the other hand has high conductivity. Solid electrolyte has a tendency to crack and break.
