Soonampedu: 200 families live in Andarkuppam village near Soonampedu. Drinking water is supplied to the people through pipes from a 30,000 liter overhead reservoir tank.

When drinking water became scarce in the summer last year, people dug 4-feet deep pits and fetched water from more than 20 taps on Mariamman Kovil Street and School Street.

As of now, the water pipes have not been repaired, so the villagers and the elderly are struggling to get water by going down to the ditch.

Also, since the overhead water tank built 20 years ago has fallen into disrepair, pump operators fear cleaning the water storage tank.

Villagers allege that insects and worms are sometimes mixed in the drinking water distributed.

The villagers have requested that the officials of the department conduct an investigation, raise the drinking water pipes and take steps to provide clean drinking water.
