She arrived at the meeting expecting to collect a Christmas check for 60 euros from the CCAS. She left empty-handed, after being sharply lectured by the mayor, outraged at her “chutzpah”. In Villeneuve-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne), the mother of a young rioter, convicted of having participated in the attack on the municipal police station last June, was warmly received by Didier Gonzales (LR) after that he discovered that she wanted to benefit from the financial boost from the municipality offered to certain low-income families during the end-of-year holidays.

He wanted to receive her in person “in order to let her know why she would not touch our Christmas initiative,” confides Didier Gonzales. At the end of the year, the CCAS of Villeneuve-le-Roi offers 40 euros to single people, 50 euros to couples, 60 euros to households of three, 70 euros for families of four, etc. Priority is given to people registered with the CCAS but the hand is also extended to the rest of the residents. It is in this context that the young man’s parents made their request, because they are not followed by the CCAS.
