Body of Missing Vilnius Man Found in Žaliųjų Ežerų Forest

A search for a missing Vilnius resident has ended with the discovery of a body in a forest near Žaliųjų Ežerų Street, authorities confirmed on November 11th. The discovery, made by a passerby, has prompted a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Lukas D., born in 1995.

Initial Report and Search Efforts

Vilnius police received a report at approximately 8:14 a.m. on November 11th regarding the discovery. According to reports, the individual who found the body was hesitant to approach closely and provided limited information. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located personal belongings near the body, which led to the identification of the deceased as Lukas D., who had been reported missing the previous week.

The initial missing person report was filed on November 5th at 7:41 p.m., after family members expressed concern over being unable to contact him for several days. A search of his residence in the Kryžiokų Sodai area revealed the home was unoccupied.

A comprehensive search operation was immediately launched, utilizing drones to survey the area from above and firefighters to inspect nearby bodies of water. The family also turned to social media, appealing for public assistance on Facebook, sharing that Lukas D. was last seen alive on November 3rd in the Jeruzalės Rajone district.

Investigation Underway

Following the discovery of the body, the missing person case has been reclassified as a pre-trial investigation to determine the cause of death. A senior official stated that, at this time, foul play is not suspected.

The body has been transferred to forensic medical experts for a thorough examination to establish the precise cause and manner of death. The investigation will focus on gathering evidence and conducting interviews to understand the events leading up to Lukas D.’s death.
