When asked by the BNS news agency if this threat is similar to the numerous bomb threats that were received in Lithuanian schools last October, Janavičute answered: “It is similar that it is a threat to blow up an educational institution.”

According to the police spokeswoman, all the threatening e-mails are in Russian and none of the threats of an explosion have turned out to be true.

The police advise schools, upon receiving such threats, to realistically evaluate the situation and not carry out unnecessary evacuation. The police have no information that people were evacuated from schools in Vilnius on Monday after receiving threats.

In connection with the false threat, the police have started a pre-trial investigation.

It has already been reported that within a few days in October 2023, thousands of fake bomb threats were sent by e-mail to schools, kindergartens and municipalities throughout Lithuania. Many similar e-mails with false bomb threats were received in Latvia and Estonia as well.

Lithuania’s Department of State Security said at the time that it was likely a targeted and coordinated attack by a hostile state aimed at creating tension, causing panic, disrupting and destabilizing the work of institutions and increasing mistrust.
