Vinales wins in Qatar, Bagnaia third behind Zarco’s other Ducati

(Time.news) – Maverick Vinales on Yamaha won the MotoGp Qatar GP, the first round of the world championship of motorcycling of the 2021 season. Mocked at the finish line Francesco Bagnaia who after the pole had to settle for third place, preceded also by the other Ducati of the French Johann Zarco. At the Losail circuit, Vinales took the lead with eight laps to go. Disappointment for Bagnaia’s Ducati-Lenovo, overtaken at the last breath by Zarco on the Ducati Pramac.

The 2020 world champion is off the podium Joan Mir, protagonist of a mistake in the final. Behind him the other Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins’ Suzuki Aleix Espargaro’s Aprilia. Pol Espargaro’s Honda and the two Ducatis of Jack Miller and del closed the top ten rookie Enea Bastianini, excellent 10th at his first in MotoGP. Disappointment for Valentino Rossi, never fighting with the leaders, who finished 12th with his Yamaha Petronas after an excellent fourth time in qualifying.

For Francesco Bagnaia, who started from pole position, a satisfactory race crowned by third place. “I’m happy for the podium, it’s a great way to start the season with the new team”, said Bagnaia.

Before the races, at the end of the MotoGp warm up on the Losail circuit, the riders of all classes, together with the professionals and the organizers dedicated a minute of silence in memory of Fausto Gresini, the former pilot and manager who died last February 23 at the Ospedale Maggiore in Bologna after almost two months of hospitalization due to Covid-19.
