Vinaya Prasad is a well-known actress among Malayalis. Just one movie, Manichitrathazhu, is enough to remember the actor Vinaya. It was a film directed by Fazil and released in 1993. In the movie, Vinaya played the character of ‘Sreedevi’.
This film, scripted by Madhu Muttam, is considered one of the best psychological horror thrillers in Malayalam cinema. Along with Vinaya, the movie features Mohanlal, Shobhana, and Suresh Gopi, and this year marks the 31st anniversary of its release.
Even after all these years, the scene where Mohanlal’s character, Sunny, confesses his feelings to Sreedevi remains very dear to Malayalis. However, in the film, Sreedevi is not shown responding to Sunny.
Vinaya is speaking in an interview given to South Plus as part of the re-release of Manichitrathazhu. When asked if she could give a response to the old Sunny as Sreedevi, Vinaya said it would be impossible to respond as that Sreedevi.
‘Now, I can only respond as Vinaya Prasad or a new Sreedevi. It is impossible to respond as that old Sreedevi. If you want to know why it is so, you can ask. But if you think about it, the answer will come,’
Sunny has expressed his feelings to Sreedevi right there. However, this is a Brahmin family. Sunny, on the other hand, is a Christian. She would have her doubts about whether her father and mother would agree. Regardless of anything, Sreedevi might have thought in that way.
She did not think like that at that moment. Because at that time, there is a joy on her face. There was also a shyness. However, Sreedevi is not that bold a character. She is a humble village woman. Therefore, she cannot suddenly respond,’ Vinaya Prasad said.
