Balaramapuram (Thiruvananthapuram): An assailant smashed the car of M. Vincent MLA with a machete. The biker attacked the MLA after he stopped the car and drove home. The driver Vinod and the locals subdued S. Santoshi (31) at Payatuvila Pulivila house and handed him over to the police. Santosh is accused in three cases, including attempted murder. However, police said he was mentally ill and had no involvement in the incident.
The incident took place at 7.15 am yesterday in front of the MLA’s house on RC Street on Balaramapuram-Vizhinjam road. Santosh, who was wearing a helmet, took the cord from his sack and smashed the glass on all four sides of the car. After cutting on the bonnet, the front number plate was also smashed. Vincent himself kept Santhosh inside the house and protected him when the angry mob threatened to attack Santhosh. The MLA stood guard over the accused till the police arrived. The car was bought by Vincent five months ago with a loan of Rs 8 lakh.
