Chandigarh: Julana has become a hot seat in the Haryana assembly elections. With two athletes and a captain entering the fray, the contest has become exciting. NBT spoke to Congress candidate and wrestler Vinesh Phogat in Julana, who is busy campaigning day and night. Julana’s daughter-in-law Vinesh is contesting against Aam Aadmi Party’s Kavita Dalal and BJP’s Yogesh Bairagi.Question-How much response are you getting in Julana?
answer- I am getting love of a different level. I never thought that a player can get so much love. There will always be a debt which we will not be able to repay. We will keep the smile on their faces. We are working day and night for this.
Question-You are working very hard, is politics tougher than wrestling?
answer-When you start any field, you have to work hard. It takes time to build a base. When the roots of a tree become strong, it grows on its own. When we plant a sapling, we water it initially. We always check whether it is growing or not. Then when it grows, it starts giving shade.
Question: The roads of Julana are in bad condition, tell us about the problems of the area?
answer-Julana is a backward area in terms of development. The condition of the city is worse than the village. It cannot be called a city. These things cause trouble. Who builds the roads, those who come into politics. Those who have power in their hands. These are the things we have to do. There is also the problem of electricity, rain and waterlogging. Our effort is that Julana should be known for development, not for Vinesh Phogat.
Question- BJP alleges that the Jantar Mantar agitation happened due to collusion with Congress, is this propaganda?
answer-BJP does not like it when someone fights for honesty. It runs a narrative on social media. I believe that if politics is not on the safety and exploitation of women, then on which issue do you want politics? You like the politics of agreeing to everything, which we cannot do. I do not believe that any girl will do politics sitting on the streets by putting her dignity at stake in any field. Our level is not as low as that of the Bharatiya Janata Party, we are people who live with dignity and self-respect.
Question: You have a female champion against you, is it going to be a tough fight or is it a competition with BJP?
answer-I don’t know who is giving tough competition. We are working hard. Our people have to decide who can uplift Julana and fulfill its needs. Whose government will be formed. I am conveying my feelings to the people. Whom to choose is the constitutional right of the people. No one can force anyone. The public will listen to everyone and decide.
Question: What are the priorities for Julana after winning?
answer-The condition of the roads is bad. There are no roads, no water. There are no hospitals. When I came here, I came to know that pregnant women deliver their babies in their cars. We want to work in every field along with the safety of women and development of sports.
