Dane Jonas Vingegaard has extended his contract with Jumbo-Visma for three years, until 2027, the Dutch team announced in a press release on Tuesday.

«I had a fantastic experience with the team who supported me in all areas to become the runner I am today“Commented the winner of the last Tour de France in this press release. “This is where I can realize my full potential. We will definitely reach an even higher level together“, he continued.

Vingegaard, 26, joined the Dutch structure in 2019. He has 20 victories to his name. This season he has won three stages and the overall classification in both the Tour of Galicia (O Gran Camino) and the Tour of the Basque Country. Jumbo-Visma executives welcomed the contract extension, with general manager Richard Plugge saying the Dane “fits perfectly“to the team so much”he is eager to learn and easy to train».

«He was a diamond in the rough when he arrived in the team. Together we grew significantly, eventually winning the Tour de France“Explained Plugge as the Grande Boucle will once again be the runner’s main objective this summer. The contract extension comes as the team’s major sponsor, supermarket chain Jumbo, questions whether it will continue as main sponsor after 2024, according to Dutch media. The Jumbo-Visma structure finances the activities of cycling teams as well as speed skating, another very popular discipline in the Netherlands.
