On the podium, Jonas Vingegaard had already paid tribute to his teammate Wout van Aert by brandishing his bib. Because if the Belgian was still prodigious on the roads of the Tour de France to allow the Dane to win a second Grande Boucle, he did not go as far as the Champs-Élysées. At the dawn of the 18th stage, he left the race to attend the birth of his second child, a little Jerome, born on July 20.

But the Dane has not forgotten the work done by his teammate for two and a half weeks. After celebrating his victory on the podium, he headed to Boxmeer, in the Netherlands, where he contested a post-lap criterium, which he incidentally won ahead of Wout Poels and Mike Teunissen. And he took advantage of the trip to make a quick detour to Wout van Aert’s home, the time to give him a little yellow jersey, the size of a newborn.

It was their team, Jumbo-Visma, who immortalized the moment. On Twitter, the Dutch published a photo of the two runners in the crack of the door of the Belgian. We can also see Georges, the first son of Wout van Aert and his partner, Sarah De Bie, born in January 2021.

This period of rest and pampering will however be short-lived for the Belgian time trial champion, who will compete in the Road World Championships on August 6th.
