Some people not only rely on the driving pleasure of the old vehicles, but also see in the historic vehicles an investment. There are many different reasons why money is invested in garage gold. Vintage car specialist Jens Berner from Südwestbank in Stuttgart says: “With the outbreak of the financial crisis and in the years that followed the euro crisis, customer demand for alternative investments, including vintage cars, rose sharply. The pleasing performance in the years that followed supported this trend.”

There are a wide variety of investors who put their money into such vehicles. “On the one hand, professional investors such as family offices who invest seven or eight-digit sums in one or more classic cars in order to diversify large assets in a targeted manner and to preserve them for decades. On the other hand, most classic cars are still in the hands of classic car fans, for whom the value retention and increase in value are only a pleasant side effect,” says the banking expert.
