Badal Sheikh, deputy chief of the Poshal village panchayat, was assassinated by unidentified Nabal Silas on Monday night in the Rampurad area of ​​Bebohum district in West Bengal. Following this, houses in the area suddenly caught fire. Eight people, including two minors, were burnt to death in the incident.

The houses were initially thought to have been set on fire, but petrol bombs were hurled at them and the houses were set on fire.

Further, the state government has set up a special investigation team to probe the incident and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who visited the village where the violence took place, said those inside the suspect ring would be traced if they did not surrender.

In this context, the Kolkata High Court today transferred the case to the CBI and directed it to file its preliminary inquiry report by April 7.
