Violent protests against corona measures – is the torch mob becoming a terror risk? – Domestic policy
An angry mob out of control!
Around 1000 lateral thinkers, corona deniers and opponents of the corona measures attacked police officers on Saturday in Greiz, Thuringia, among others. with pyrotechnics. They used pepper spray against the demonstrators. 14 officers were injured in rioting.
“Society is not divided,” says Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD). But is that really true?
► Says “Yes” Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (54, SPD), in the BILD talk “The right questions”. “It’s a tiny minority that is getting louder and louder and more radical.”
Maier does not exempt BILD from his criticism either. “Certain headlines from BILD in the past were not helpful and also polarized people there.”

His dramatic analysis: “We have already had attacks on vaccination centers. We already have a dead person in Idar-Oberstein. The line to lethal violence has already been crossed. “
And further: “As a society, we have to find a very clear language. The right-wing extremists see this as an opportunity for themselves to be able to reach more and more circles. This is unbearable.”

► North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister Herbert Reul (69, CDU) warned above all that right-wing extremists could hijack the protests. “In the beginning there were a lot of worried people, but more and more it spilled over into the right-wing extremist area. (…) We had registrations for 50, 60 people that weekend and suddenly there were thousands. It has a lot to do with the internet. Thousands of people are out and about in the relevant forums sharing this. ”But public communication also bears responsibility, according to Reul.
“The word vaccination requirement can have fatal consequences for those who do not understand at all and know where it is going.”

► A point that too Terror expert Peter Neumann (47) sees. He speaks of a narrative style with which radicals see themselves in legitimate resistance against society. That could be a preliminary stage to terrorism: “I can certainly imagine it, but I believe that it will take a long time.”
And further: “Resistance narratives are being formulated ever more clearly. This is new, it didn’t exist a year ago, and it suggests that people are preparing to not only justify violence but also to carry it out. I can already imagine that certain terrorist groups will form in a few months, ”said Neumann.
► Ex-Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger (70, FDP) but also warns: “You can’t just stand up and say: Well, now we have to be vaccinated. The way in which Mr. Söder discusses the compulsory vaccination is grist to the mill of those who try with all their might to bring an argument against the state. “
And further: “It shows that more and more citizens are saying that they do not want to put up with what government and countries decide. They turn against the state and have an outlet to vent their anger. That goes into the radical realm. I say very clearly: Anyone who goes there and sees that such slogans are shouted, has to leave or he is complicit. “
