VIPITENO. The collaboration between citizens and the Municipality of Vipiteno has allowed us to agree on some interventions to improve safety along the city streets, interventions recently implemented by the local police.
“We have created parking spaces along Via Alta,” explains the commander of the local police Egon Bernabè, “a measure that responds to a desire expressed by the residents of the area, who during a meeting insisted on doing something to reduce the speed of cars in transit and increase safety in the neighborhood and, with safety, improve the quality of life.”
The parking lot has been designed and is proposed on an experimental basis, as had already been done along Marconi Street: by reducing the width of the roadway, motorists are
no clearly forced to slow down. And to slow down cars there are also 30 km/h limits introduced along some city streets.
Another aim of the interventions in Vipiteno is to promote the use of bicycles and thus a stretch of via Wilhelm Egger will become one-way to optimize traffic flow and create ap-
point space for a cycle path. “This measure – Bernabè underlines – makes it safer
more bike transit, and more attractive”.
Then we thought about the roundabout at the intersection between Alta Street and Marconi Streetroundabout that will be
soon to be redesigned, again to slow down traffic. At the intersection of via Frundsbergimprovements have been made to horizontal road signs. “All these measures – adds Bernabè – represent important steps towards a more liveable and also more sustainable city. By solving the problems related to car traffic, we can respond to people’s needs, creating more space for cyclists and pedestrians and reducing the speed of tran-
vehicle site, to make our city safer, healthier and more livable.”
The municipal administration of Vipiteno, in collaboration with the local police command, invites all citizens to “actively participate in the planning of the city and to give feedback on the proposed measures with the aim of being able to satisfy these requests and collaborate to create a
series of positive changes”.
