New Delhi: Lucknow Supergiants captain KL Rahul opened up about his team’s performance in the Indian Premier League, his relationship with the coach and the atmosphere in the dressing room. In an exclusive conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul shared his captaincy experiences for Lucknow and Punjab Kings. The right-handed batsman has also captained India. Rahul believes that he has now struck the right balance between his thinking and following the advice of the team management. Apart from this, he also told about the dressing room of Team India along with the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Rahul said on the YouTube channel of Indian teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, ‘Building a team depends on the players you select. You can’t afford to miss auctions at key locations. I have no shame in admitting that I have made some mistakes in the first few years of captaincy.
Rohit Sharma is amazing in the dressing room
When asked about the leadership style of current Indian captain Rohit Sharma and predecessor Virat Kohli, Rahul said, ‘Rohit brought a sense of calmness to the dressing room. The captain’s passion remains the same. This gives the players enough time to understand their role and adapt to it.
Rahul said, ‘Virat had already set a level as to how to be on the field and Rohit does things calmly.’ He described Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kane Williamson as among the most gentlemanly players.

KL Rahul builds rapport with the coach
Rahul is currently working with head coach Justin Langer. He has worked with Anil Kumble and Andy Flower in the past. He said, ‘When you captain, a lot of information comes. You have to decide how to use which information. Sometimes your thinking is opposite to that of the coach.
Rahul said, ‘It was difficult for me initially to ignore the coach’s words because culturally we are taught to respect elders. There were times when things did not go as per plan and I was unable to sleep. I realized that apart from the team players, you also need to build a cordial relationship with the coach. We both want the same thing for the team.
