Colombo: Team India, which went on a tour of Sri Lanka, has taken an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the T20 series. After the T20, Team India has to play the ODI series, which will start from August 2. For this, senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer have reached Colombo. Virat Kohli, who went to London to meet his family after winning the T20 World Cup, was seen wearing dark glasses when he landed in Colombo. Earlier it was reported that he would take rest in the ODI series. Similarly, when Rohit Sharma, who returned home recently after spending a long vacation with his wife and children, reached Sri Lanka, the swagger cap on his head was looking very good. Both the senior players reached Sri Lanka’s IPC Ratnadeepa Hotel on Sunday night.

India’s first training session cancelled

The Indian ODI team’s first net session scheduled for Monday was cancelled due to rain and bad weather. Abhishek Nair, one of the assistant coaches of new head coach Gautam Gambhir, was tasked with overseeing this session. Nair arrived in Colombo on Monday morning after the second T20 match on Sunday night. The rest of the team will join Rohit and other ODI players after the final T20 match to be held in Pallikal on July 30.
ODI series starts from 2 August

The ODI series will begin in Colombo on August 2, with all three matches to be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The second ODI will be played on August 4 and the final match of the series will be played on August 7. Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel is expected to join Gambhir’s coaching staff as bowling coach from the home series against Bangladesh in September.

Morkel will also be the coach along with Bahutule!

According to a Cricbuzz report, Gambhir has indicated that the team management is currently keeping an eye on the coaching setup during the six-match series in Sri Lanka, with plans to establish a strong coaching staff for future series. Spin bowling specialist Sairaj Bahutule is currently serving as the interim bowling coach for the Sri Lanka tour. If the management finds his contribution beneficial to the team, he can continue in this role and become the fast bowling coach of former South African pacer Morne Morkel. In such a situation, the coaching lineup will include two assistant coaches (Abhishek Nair and Ryan Ten Doeschate), a bowling coach (Morne Morkel), a fielding coach (T Dilip) and a spin bowling coach as well as head coach Gautam Gambhir. This will make a total of six coaches, which will be a very large coaching staff.

India’s ODI squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dubey, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Riyan Parag, Axar Patel, Khalil Ahmed, Harshit Rana
